Job Title: Program Specialist for Camping and Therapeutic Programs       

Bradford Woods is Indiana University ’s outdoor center. On our 2500 acre campus we have been providing educational, recreational and professional service opportunities to youth and adults for over 50 years in the areas of Therapeutic Recreation, Environmental Education, Adventure Education, and Retreats.

The Camping and Therapeutic Programming department concentrates on the development and oversight of camping and retreat programs for people with disability and / or disease. Common populations served include children and adults with cancer, sickle cell anemia, cranial facial anomalies, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other physical disabilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

-          Assist Coordinator of Camping with day-to-day management and leadership of the department

-          Assist Coordinator with interviewing and hiring of summer and weekend camp staff

-          Assist with design, planning and delivery of staff training programs and in-service workshops

-          Mentor, supervise and conduct performance reviews for summer staff

-             Assist in the development and implementation of outreach program services

-          Provide leadership in cabin life and program logistics  

-          Assist in the development and instruction of university courses

-          Lead and support recreational activities and conduct evening programs

-          Perform administrative duties such as completing program schedules and reports, maintain databases, conduct staff  meetings, etc

-          Ability and desire to work with youth and adults with disabilities and specific medical needs

Knowledge and Skills Desired

-          University degree in therapeutic recreation or related field

-          Possess solid outdoor and recreation skills: Challenge courses, hiking, climbing, canoeing, waterfront (life-saving), swimming, archery, etc

-          Experience teaching, leading and supervising camp staff

-          Experience in camp settings

-          First Aid & CPR certification; lifeguard certification

-          Drivers license; willingness to obtain Chauffeurs license

Salary & Benefits

-          $300.00 per week plus room and partial board
